Website Audit Help & FAQs
Everything you need to know about running a website health check with URL Health.
Getting Started
URL Health is a free website audit tool and site health checker. It audits your site across 8 categories: Lighthouse performance, security headers, SEO meta tags, AI bot access, structured data, broken links, DNS health, and AI-powered insights. You get a detailed health report with scores, grades, and actionable fix recommendations.
Enter your website URL on the audit page and click "Scan Now". No account is needed for a free website health check. Your audit report is typically ready in under 2 minutes.
No — you can run a free website audit without an account. However, creating a free account gives you access to your audit history, and upgrading unlocks fix recommendations, the Fix Tracker, and more.
Yes! The free plan includes 3 scans per month with full results across all 8 categories, plus an AI executive summary. Paid plans start from £9/month and unlock fix recommendations, PDF exports, monitoring, and more.
Understanding Your Results
Each category is scored from 0 to 100 and given a letter grade: A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), or F (0-59). Your overall score is a weighted average of all categories.
- Lighthouse Scores — Google Lighthouse performance, accessibility, and best practices for mobile and desktop.
- Security Headers — checks for CSP, HSTS, X-Frame-Options, SSL certificate validity, and HTTPS redirect.
- Meta Tags & SEO — title, description, Open Graph, Twitter Cards, canonical URLs, viewport, and more.
- AI Bot Access — whether AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, etc.) can access your site, plus llms.txt and noai checks.
- Structured Data — JSON-LD schema markup, heading hierarchy, semantic HTML landmarks, ARIA attributes, and breadcrumbs.
- Link Health — broken links, redirect chains, and missing security attributes on outbound links.
- DNS Health — A, NS, MX, and CNAME records, plus SPF and DMARC email authentication checks.
- AI Insights — a Claude-generated executive summary with a prioritised action plan (advisory, not scored).
The Desktop/Mobile toggle switches your Lighthouse scores, page screenshot, and loading timeline between the two views. Mobile scores are typically lower because Google simulates a mid-range phone on a throttled 4G connection.
The filmstrip at the top of your results shows how your page loads frame by frame. The FCP (First Contentful Paint) marker shows when the first visible content appeared. Faster is better — aim for under 1.8 seconds on mobile.
Lighthouse's SEO check is basic — it just verifies your site is crawlable and has minimal meta tags. Our Meta Tags & SEO category goes deeper, checking title length, description length, Open Graph completeness, Twitter Cards, canonical URLs, and more.
Fixing Issues
Fix recommendations require two things: a paid plan (Starter or above) and domain verification. This proves you own the website before we share detailed fix advice — we don't want competitors auditing each other's sites.
On the results page, click "Verify Domain Ownership". You'll get a unique token and two options:
- HTML Meta Tag (recommended) — add a
<meta>tag to your site's<head>. - DNS TXT Record — add the token as a TXT record in your DNS settings.
The Fix Tracker turns your audit issues into a todo list. Click "Create Fix List" on any results page, and we'll extract all the issues into trackable items with impact levels (high, medium, low). Work through them, mark them as done, then re-scan to verify your improvements.
Each fix item has a "How to fix" button that generates a step-by-step guide using AI. It includes why the issue matters, instructions for different platforms (WordPress, Laravel, static sites), code examples, and how to verify the fix. The guide is cached — so it loads instantly after the first time.
Yes — each re-scan counts as one audit against your monthly limit. We recommend fixing as many issues as possible before re-scanning to get the most value from each scan.
Yes — once a domain is verified, no other account can claim it. This prevents competitors from accessing your fix recommendations. If you need to transfer a domain to another account, contact support.
Keywords
Keyword tracking checks how well your pages are optimised for specific keywords. We analyse whether your target keywords appear in the right places — title tag, meta description, H1 heading, other headings, and body text. Each keyword gets a score out of 100.
It depends on your plan: Starter gets 5 keywords, Pro gets 20, and Agency gets unlimited. Keywords are tracked per verified domain.
Available on Pro and Agency plans, this connects your Google Search Console data to show real search ranking positions, impressions, clicks, and click-through rates for your tracked keywords. You'll need to have Google Search Console set up for your site first.
Yes — when you run a scan on a site that has tracked keywords, the on-page keyword analysis runs automatically as part of the audit. You can also click "Analyse Now" on the Keywords page to run a manual check.
PDF Reports & White-Label
Yes — on Starter plans and above, a "Download PDF" button appears on every audit results page. The report includes your scores, Lighthouse gauges for desktop and mobile, security headers, meta tags, AI action plan, and code examples.
Available on the Agency plan, white-label lets you customise PDF reports with your own agency branding. You can set your company name, upload your logo, and choose a custom accent colour. Your clients will see your brand on the report, not ours.
Go to Branding in the sidebar. Upload your logo (PNG, JPG, or SVG — we automatically optimise and convert to WebP), set your company name, and pick your brand colour. A live preview shows how your PDF header will look.
